Xan Nowakowski, PhD, MPH

Xan Nowakowski is an assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine and affiliate faculty in Sociology. Their teaching and research focuses on experience and management of chronic conditions, social causes of and responses to health inequalities, and evaluation of programs and services that promote health equity. Lifelong chronic illness and a passion for social justice motivate them in advocating for others with health challenges through a variety of professional service activities.

J.E. Sumerau is a novelist and an associate professor of sociology and the director of applied sociology at the University of Tampa. Her novels focus on the experiences of Queer & Trans people in the south, and their teaching and research focuses on the interrelation of gender, sexualities, religion, violence, and health in society.
